Turina

7. Joaquin Turina (1882-1949). Fandanguillo. 4’07’’

A page from the booklet of "The Dance Album"Turina composed music at the age of national romanticism and his fandanguillo (or little fandango) contains motifs from Spanish folk music as well as considerably more contemporary styles. On top of that the music possesses a clear dance rhythm that is often undeservedly overlooked.

By introducing clapping and castanets to stress the rhythm we as if take the music back to the era from which Turina derived inspiration and such activity would seem pointless if the music itself were not so great.

Kristo Käo – guitar
Anne Anderson – castanets, clapping
