Every Christmas, I face the same challenge: I piece songs together from random internet sources to play holiday music at home. They’re never in a convenient key or format! In 2024, my son started preparing for Christmas early—right after the first snow fell in mid-November. His excitement inspired me to get into the holiday spirit, too. So, I decided to give myself an early gift by arranging a collection of Christmas songs just how I’d like them—bass and melody only, perfect for improvising the inner voices. While working on the music, I also looked up the historical prints and researched the origins of each piece. Surprisingly, not all the famous carols were written initially for Christmas! I found the stories fascinating and included short notes about them alongside each song in the book.
