Playing The Custom Level
We have now set the maximum speed to approx 140 chords per minute. This seems to be about the last reasonable speed that allows convenient playing. Although I did not have time to check my current CPM while playing. Anayway, here is an example of how fast it can go and still recognise the chords. The… Continue reading
Make Your Own Level In ChordInvaders
We have just launched a new feature that allows everyone to create their own level. This way you can practice exactly the chords you need. Also, you can choose how many different chords will you learn during one session and what’s the best feature: you choose the tempo. For example, I took a chance and… Continue reading
Is The F-chord More Difficult Than Others?
This is the first post based on actual data from our ChordInvaders game. If you’re impatient and like data, scroll down to the graph. If not, we will start with an intro. The most common chord shapes on the guitar utilize as many open strings as possible (think about G or Em!). Obviously, using open strings… Continue reading
Different Shapes Of A Guitar Chord
The guitarist in this video (Bob Marley – Exodus) seems somewhat bored. Is it because he only has to play a single chord during the whole song? Am is probably one of the first chords that a beginner guitarist gets acquainted with. However, even this seemingly quite tough restriction leaves a plethora of possibilites how… Continue reading

Once you have mastered enough chords to accompany most of the popular songs, you may want to add some melody. Essentially, this needs a bit different approach as you need to pluck bass, melody and chords at the same time. I’d suggest you start with exploring the common chord shapes also a bit higher on… Continue reading
Back from Basel with my theorbo
I had a couple of free days in the beginning of the new year and the weather was good (no snow!). So I took a ‘little’ drive – 5000 km from Tartu to Basel and back. Took me about 30 hours to drive to Bern (visited a friend there) and 30 hours back. All because… Continue reading
We launched a smart guitar game
Me and my colleague from the university (Margus Niitsoo, PhD) have been working on sound recognition lately. I recorded hundreds of samples on different guitars this summer to form the basis for machine learning. Now our virtual professor can distinguish between different pitches and chords pretty accurately. Rhythm, timing and tempo recognition is under development…. Continue reading
